[[File:Join elvine.jpg|thumb|right|Elvine or Aresden?]]
When you enter the game you will arrive at the beginner map, here you can get used to the game controls and HUD (heads up display).

HP (Hit Point), MP (Mana Point), SP (Stamina Point), and MaxLoad (Maximum Weight Load) will be calculated with compounding characteristics above.
On your minimap you will see a blue dot in top right corner of the map. That is you.<br>
    MaxHP = 3*VIT + 2*Level + STR/2
A little south west of you is a pink dot - an NPC with a beginner quest. Accept it.<br>
    MaxMP = 2*MAG + 2*Level + INT/2
Now go south and kill enough slimes to finish the quest.
    MaxSP = 2*STR + 2*Level
    Max.Load = 5*STR + 5*Level

If you started as a mage, you will have Magic Missile in your spellbook. Otherwise just stab the slimes with your knife. Take care not to get surrounded, you can die easily in the beginning.<br>
Once you are done, you should be level five. You should distribute your attribute points and you can select your first talent (or don't, you won't lose the option).<br>
Next step is to pick the town you would like to fight for, Elvine on the right, Aresden on the left.

3-2. Setting characteristic at the beginning
===Town Farm===
Warrior Setting: If you want to fight, you can choose a warrior. Pure warrior has much more HP and higher DF, so that users can develop their character easily. Novices of Helbreath have a propensity to choose the warrior because of this reason. Warrior depends on their setting points, which are given when the character makes level-up. 3 points are given as the level is increases. You can add these three points to your character for developing. There can be difference of the ability due to your choice, even if the levels are same between two characters.
[[File:Farm Dungeon entrance.jpg|thumb|right|Entrance to Town Farm Dungeon - stairs leading underground.]]
After choosing the town, you will be teleported to your town's Farm map. Here you can access shops to get basic gear, spells, potions and a warehouse to store your items.<br>
On your minimap you will see fixed spawns of various monsters. You should get your next 10-15 levels killing monsters, progressing from slimes through ants and snakes to orcs. At level 15 you can get a snake oriented quest in the shop.<br>
Monsters will drop gold, potions, equipment and various items. Equip what you can use and has the appropriate stats for your selected class. You can disenchant the rest using "control + E" to bring up the enchanting menu or sell it to the shop or blacksmith.

Mage Setting: If you prefer to use magic, you should try a mage. Mage may have hard time to level-up at the early on, as compared with warrior. However, after learning some attack spells, mages can cast harmful spells on their enemies and show their great power. The reason, that mages have a difficulty to hunting, is the amount of mana. Without mana, it is next to impossible for mages to hunt and fight. You can develop your mage in certain types with INT, STR, DEX, and VIT. Among them, we call the character with DEX and STR Mage-Warrior, and we also call the character without DEX and STR Pure-Mage. Both pure-mage and mage-warrior can be classified according to their STR.
'''Mage'''<br>
- The condition of pure mage and mage-warrior
You want to buy mana potions to fuel your spells. When you get AoE spells, try to make monsters to bunch up by running around them so you can hit multiple targets with single spell.<br>
Pure-Mage: STR 10 ~ 30, DEX 10 and less, CHR 10 and less, the rest INT or MAG, VIT all setting points are applied to.
Try to be mana effecient. Figure out which spells need how many casts to kill what you are hunting and pay attention to elements. Most monsters on Town Farm are Earth which calls for Fire. But Orcs are resistant to Fire.
Mage-Warrior: DEX-MWarrior (DEX 50, STR 30), Fencing-Mage (STR 40, DEX 50), STR- MWarrior (STR 52, DEX 50)

3-3. How to develop Mage-Warrior
'''Warrior'''<br>
Mage-Warrior can be classified into three types according to the magic that your character masters.
Get enough armor and a good weapon. Remember that weapons have upper strength limit. If you have less strength, you will swing slower.<br>
Magic-Protection MWarrior (MProMWarrior): This type is the Mage-Warrior who masters defense magic from basic attacks and supporting magic. This type has to master [Protection from magic], which need INT 36 to learn in 4th circle magic. Magic-Protection MWarrior is the most basic and fundamental stage for Magic-Warrior. This character is close to warrior, because there is no waste of setting point except INT. During the war, this type has ability to defense by himself from magic attack, and the setting is very similar with warrior. Therefore, Magic-Protection MWarrior is ideal type for Mage-Warrior.
Take advantage of corners and obstacles to break monster groups that would surround you. If you have Archery talent, you will want to take advantage of the piercing properties of your arrows so aim at distant targets.<br>
Berserk MWarrior (BMWarrior): This type is the Mage-warrior who masters [Berserk] in 6th circle. [Berserk] is very high level magic, so it requires some MAG to increase the percentage of Magic Skill. Just more than 25 MAG are needed. Although the setting points are wasted to MAG, you can increase your Physical Attack twice by using [Berserk].
Save some critical attacks so you can get out of group of monsters or so you can quickly finish off elite monster.
Energy-Strike MWarrior (ESMWarrior): This type has both characteristic of warrior and mage. It is hard to surpass pure character in anyway to this type, but it can outshine others in some way if you work hard continuously. To be Energy-Warrior, you'd better become BMWarrior first. Then, you keep your setting three setting points to INT 2 and MAG 1. MAG should be 50 to get Magic Skill 100%. If magic skill is not 100%, you can not cast high level magic like [Energy Strike] properly.

In addition, general way to develop the character.
Once you feel strong enough to take on orcs, you can grab quest at the teleport pad to Town which is repeatable and tells you to kill 200 orcs and 2 elite orcs. The best approach is to take advantage of the Farm Dungeon. You can find entrance to it close to the village.<br>
Flameberg: ESMWarrior [STR 130, INT 67,MAG 50, DEX 180, VIT 80 CHR 10] and [STR 130, INT 67, MAG 100, DEX 150, VIT 80, CHR 10]
Once you enter the dungeon you will be forced into party with all players that are present there. That means that you will share experience for kills as long as you are close enough that you can see each other. Get to nearest orc spawn, or to the one that has another player in it to make it go easier (party members show up as green dots on minimap). You may notice that some players have red circle under them signaling that they belong to the other town. Fear not, they are in party with you here so they are treated as allies.<br>
Battle: ESMWarrior [STR 169, INT 67, MAG 50, DEX 151, VIT 80, CHR 10]
When you are done with the quest, Recall, claim reward and repeat. You can also do quests which are given in the dungeon itself. Continue till you get to level 40-50.
Flameberg: Lightning-Strike MWarrior [STR 130, INT 123, MAG 50, DEX 150, VIT 54, CHR 10]
Battle: Lightning-Strike MWarrior [STR 169, INT 123, MAG 50, DEX 130, VIT 35, CHR 10]
Fencing: DEX-Warrior [STR 30, INT67, MAG 180, DEX 180, VIT 50, CHR 10] and [STR 30, INT 76, MAG 200, DEX 170, VIT 40, CHR 10]

3-4. Skills
===Mass Exp Party===
Fistfight Attack: It's an attack without any weapon. It's faster than using any weapon, but the damage is low. As the STR is high your attack is better. Max Mastery= STR*2
When you have high enough level to enter other zones such as Garden, Promise Land or Death Valley, then you will want to join a mass experience gathering party.<br>
Short Knife Attack: Different of Long knife, the speed is faster and the usage is recommendable for small and average monsters. But the damage is not that high. Max Mastery= DEX*2
Ideally, you want to go hunting with your guild but you can also join a public party.
Fencing Attack: Kind of Dirk and Long Sword, it gives more damage than the dirk and faster than the long sword. It's faster but the attack is not good, so it's not quite used. Max Mastery= DEX*2
These parties are usually advertised in Town chat as "mass DV" (Death Valley being the most common destination). You send a request for joining the party to the player spamming the chat by pointing mouse at their name in chat and pressing 'Ctrl+P'. Once you are in party, you should move to the map and find the party there (its useful to be able to cast invisibility on yourself so you don't get killed before reaching them, shop sells invisibility scrolls).
Axe Attack: The attack gives more damage than the short sword without any differences between the hitting rate and it's faster than the long sword. Max Mastery= DEX*2
Long Sword Attack: The long sword attack uses the two hands. The speed is low and the hitting rate for small and middle monsters is low but once you hit the damage is high. If you want to have a successful attack, you should have high point of STR and DEX. Actually, it's the favorite weapon for many players. Max Mastery= DEX*2
Archery Attack: If you have reached the ability of archery you need arrows to use it. The positive point is that using this weapon you can attack with distance. Max Mastery= DEX*2
Magic Attack: If you want use the magic, at first, you must learn in the Magic Tower. You will need to increase your Mana level. It's difficult to use attack continuously but it's quite sufficient to force the players.
Critical Attack: If the weapon skill that you are using is 100%, you can use it if the special attack is more than 1. The special attack counter increases 1 each 40 seconds, and the maximum accumulation accords to the Level/10.The special attack depends on the weapon usage but the bonus increases according to the weapon damage.

4. Roles in Helbreath
Your goal will be to keep up with the main body of the party to gain experience from their kills. Try to help to the best of your ability by casting AoE spells, buffing melee players with berserk/shield or killing off weaker straglers closing on party's mages. But most importantly, don't die.<br>
The character has different kinds of procedure with a present aspect. Character's procedure, appears in the Traveler, Civilian, Guildsman status windows. The Status of a criminal is colored appearing below the name of the character.
This way you can get to max level in just a couple of hours.
Traveler
A new character it's independent from any village civilian, it means he is a traveler. You can make relation with other village people and when someone kills you receive the PK penalty. As a traveler you can't attack any players. You just can hunt monster until level 15.
Civilian
Travelers more than level 5 can obtain identification in the City hall. The level limit is disabled and you can participate in activities of the city. You can have good relations with a traveler, but you become enemy with the civilian of the other village. You can obtain a prize by catching a criminal in the City hall. But killing your same village people you will be named as criminal with PK penalty.
Guild master
A civilian that has got an identification with level 20 and Charisma 20 can become a guild master. At first, Organize the guildsman then you can attack to people of the other village.
Guildsman
To become a Guildsman the player has to obtain permission of the Guild master. You will need your Identification. Then you can battle as a Guildsman with other village civilian.
Criminal and PK penalty
The status of a character is divided in Innocent or Criminal, Murderer, Slaughterer. The player that has killed a character that doesn't appear as Enemy, receives the PK penalty showing the players Id as Criminal. As your crime gets worse your skill reduces and your Item is taken away.

4-1. Level 1~19 A new character it's independent from any village civilian, it means he is a traveler. You can make relation with other village people and when someone kills you the person receives the PK penalty. As a traveler you can't attack any players and your weapons do not need to be fixed. You just can hunt monster until level 19.

Until 19, it is recommended to remain as Neutral.
If you are a Warrior : You should get enough STR to use your weapon. Example) One handed sword's minimum attack speed is 5, so you will need 65 STR to use this weapon. If you are training a pure warrior you should work on the STR, DEX, VIT.
If you are a Magician : You should use the dagger until you learn magic. After learning magic you should work on the magic skills. Using Energy Bolt is recommended.
If you are a Magic-Warrior : A Magic-Warrior is divided by its STR.
Example)
DEX Magic-Warrior : 30 STR, 50 DEX, attack magic more than Energy Strike, more than 100 MAG
Fencing Magic-Warrior : 40 STR, 50+ ¥á DEX, attack magic more than Energy Strike, more than 100 MAG
STR Magic-Warrior: 52 STR, 50+ ¥á DEX, attack magic more than Energy Strike, more than 100 MAG
If you consider more to Magic, it is easy to set your Magic-Warrior by setting to use the magic first.
To raise a Magic-Warrior at the beginning, setting 2 on STR and 1 on DEX is recommended. If your STR is enough, than it is time to put 3 on DEX (until 50).

4-2. Level 20~50
==Gearing Up==
It is recommended to train at the Barracks until lvl 50 (Barrack level limit : 50).
Getting to max level is the easy part, now you will need to obtain good equipment. That can be obtained by two ways - looting it from a monster or buying it from a player. If you are in a big guild, old members might just give you what you need. Or you can go on hunt with them and grab some of the items that would normally be disenchanted.
Warrior : 98 STR, 12 VIT, 50 DEX & 100% of your weapon skill is recommended. Dummy is good to raise your shield skill also.
Magician : Magicians doesn't matter to be in the Barrack. Hunting Slimes or using Farm maps are recommended. You can use the magic staff from level 30. You should raise enough STR to use the armor you want also.
Magic-Warrior (Fencing) : Fencing Magic-Warrior needs shield skills. Barrack B2 is recommended. If your DEX is 50 then set 2 points on INT and 1 on MAG is recommend.

About Skills
Without a guild it is going to be significantly harder. The drop rate is low for new players. It will get better over time thanks to your monster speciality leveling up as you keep killing the same monster but it is a slow process. You can however get a head start by investing attribute points to Luck which increases drop chance. That is usually not desirable so you might try to level up a second character for this.<br>
Below 50% - Needs the count by the number of the skill points.
A decent build for this purpose would be a '''Lightning''' + '''Holy''' mage with '''150+ Luck''', '''182 Intelligence''' and the rest in '''Magic'''.<br>
Over 50% - Needs square skill point / 10 of count.
This character should be able to hunt even without equipment thanks to Holy allowing you to quickly regain mana. You can then send looted items to your main character or sell them to other players.

Attributes allocation during character creation

File:Character creation.jpg
Make your choice.

As the image shows the game will allow you to select from three basic starting builds - Warrior, Mage or Master. Selecting one of them will allocate your 10 starting attribute points. You can also allocate these points yourself.
"Old school" builds are now balanced around the New Talent system and careful consideration of the attributes and bonuses gained or lost with each Talent will be needed to get the best out of your build.

Look at Character Development wiki page for more information.

Warrior:
If you want to swing weapons like swords, axes, hammers or shooting from a bow, you can make a warrior.

PFM Warr(36 Int), Zerker(59 INT), Haste(62 INT) and AMP Warr(112 INT) are all options depending on the style the player wishes to adopt.

Mage:
If you prefer to use magic, you should try a mage. Mages may have harder time to level-up at early stages, as compared with warrior. However, after learning some attack spells, mages can cast harmful spells on their enemies and show their great power. The reason, that mages have a difficulty in hunting, is the amount of mana. Without mana, it is next to impossible for mages to hunt and fight, after collecting a basic MP set a mage can begin their journey.

You can develop your mage in certain ways with INT, STR, DEX, and VIT.

Look at Builds wiki page for more character builds.

Leveling Up[edit | edit source]

Beginner Zone[edit | edit source]

File:Join elvine.jpg
Elvine or Aresden?

When you enter the game you will arrive at the beginner map, here you can get used to the game controls and HUD (heads up display).

On your minimap you will see a blue dot in top right corner of the map. That is you.
A little south west of you is a pink dot - an NPC with a beginner quest. Accept it.
Now go south and kill enough slimes to finish the quest.

If you started as a mage, you will have Magic Missile in your spellbook. Otherwise just stab the slimes with your knife. Take care not to get surrounded, you can die easily in the beginning.
Once you are done, you should be level five. You should distribute your attribute points and you can select your first talent (or don't, you won't lose the option).
Next step is to pick the town you would like to fight for, Elvine on the right, Aresden on the left.

Town Farm[edit | edit source]

File:Farm Dungeon entrance.jpg
Entrance to Town Farm Dungeon - stairs leading underground.

After choosing the town, you will be teleported to your town's Farm map. Here you can access shops to get basic gear, spells, potions and a warehouse to store your items.
On your minimap you will see fixed spawns of various monsters. You should get your next 10-15 levels killing monsters, progressing from slimes through ants and snakes to orcs. At level 15 you can get a snake oriented quest in the shop.
Monsters will drop gold, potions, equipment and various items. Equip what you can use and has the appropriate stats for your selected class. You can disenchant the rest using "control + E" to bring up the enchanting menu or sell it to the shop or blacksmith.

Mage
You want to buy mana potions to fuel your spells. When you get AoE spells, try to make monsters to bunch up by running around them so you can hit multiple targets with single spell.
Try to be mana effecient. Figure out which spells need how many casts to kill what you are hunting and pay attention to elements. Most monsters on Town Farm are Earth which calls for Fire. But Orcs are resistant to Fire.

Warrior
Get enough armor and a good weapon. Remember that weapons have upper strength limit. If you have less strength, you will swing slower.
Take advantage of corners and obstacles to break monster groups that would surround you. If you have Archery talent, you will want to take advantage of the piercing properties of your arrows so aim at distant targets.
Save some critical attacks so you can get out of group of monsters or so you can quickly finish off elite monster.

Once you feel strong enough to take on orcs, you can grab quest at the teleport pad to Town which is repeatable and tells you to kill 200 orcs and 2 elite orcs. The best approach is to take advantage of the Farm Dungeon. You can find entrance to it close to the village.
Fear not, they are in party with you here so they are treated as allies.
When you are done with the quest, Recall, claim reward and repeat. You can also do quests which are given in the dungeon itself. Continue till you get to level 40-50.

Mass Exp Party[edit | edit source]

When you have high enough level to enter other zones such as Garden, Promise Land or Death Valley, then you will want to join a mass experience gathering party.
Ideally, you want to go hunting with your guild but you can also join a public party.

Your goal will be to keep up with the main body of the party to gain experience from their kills. Try to help to the best of your ability by casting AoE spells, buffing melee players with berserk/shield or killing off weaker straglers closing on party's mages. But most importantly, don't die.
This way you can get to max level in just a couple of hours.

Gearing Up[edit | edit source]

Getting to max level is the easy part, now you will need to obtain good equipment. That can be obtained by two ways - looting it from a monster or buying it from a player. If you are in a big guild, old members might just give you what you need. Or you can go on hunt with them and grab some of the items that would normally be disenchanted.

Without a guild it is going to be significantly harder. The drop rate is low for new players. It will get better over time thanks to your monster speciality leveling up as you keep killing the same monster but it is a slow process. You can however get a head start by investing attribute points to Luck which increases drop chance. That is usually not desirable so you might try to level up a second character for this.
A decent build for this purpose would be a Lightning + Holy mage with 150+ Luck, 182 Intelligence and the rest in Magic.
This character should be able to hunt even without equipment thanks to Holy allowing you to quickly regain mana. You can then send looted items to your main character or sell them to other players.
